Atari Announces Blockchain versions of Mobile Games RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch and Goon Squad

The global interactive entertainment and video game company Atari announced in a press release that it has entered into a license agreement with Animoca Brands Limited granting them the rights to produce and publish blockchain versions of popular Atari mobile games RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch and Goon Squad. The agreement is valid globally excluding China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau. Animoca Brands is a subsidiary of Animoca Brands Corporation Limited.

The games RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch and Goon Squad are two of the most iconic games available. RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch is a simulation video game that lets you build your own theme park. The game apparently has over 19 million downloads globally. It also features a partnership with the celebrity chef Jonathan Cheban aka Foodgod who has appeared in a TV show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians”. Goon Squad is a ‘fast-paced, card-based multiplayer brawler’ free-to-play game. Players can rise from lowly Goon to the most feared mob boss in the city. By collecting cards player may rise through the ranks and become the don of the crime world.

“This deal marks a special moment for me because I started my career working with Atari and using Atari computers. The RollerCoaster Tycoon franchise is, like many of Atari’s properties, a true evergreen, having been around for two decades. Given the strategic and commercial elements of this incredibly fun simulation, it is a perfect candidate for blockchain adaptation.” Explained the co-founder and chairman of Animoca Brands, Yat Siu.

CEO of Atari, Frédéric Chesnais, said that “We are proud and delighted to enter into this long-term and strategic relationship with Animoca Brands, which also allows us to become a shareholder in one of the most exciting innovators in the world of decentralized gaming. We hope that this agreement paves the way to further cooperation with other Atari products.”

Animoca Brands will pay to Atari a minimum guarantee against future revenues of US$250,000, for allowing them to develop the games. They are payable in shares of the Company’s stock. And once the gross revenues generated by the games exceed a total of US$500,000, a revenue share will also be payable to Atari the report indicates.

Animoca Brands and Atari have also signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a strategic partnership to explore mutual opportunities in gaming, product development, the blockchain, and other areas. The term of the Agreement extends through to 31 March 2022.

The new titles will feature the integration of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and Animoca Brands expects to publish the games by the end of next year.
